Dangerous goods carried internationally by sea are subject to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code. This has requirements for similar markings etc, and container regulations more specifically made around maritime requirements. You may encounter goods being moved from port to port etc. by road quite legally if marked under IMDG regulations.
