Vehicles running under UK
HAZCHEM regulations will carry a two- or three-character Emergency Action
Code (EAC). This code will tell the Fire and Rescue Service how to deal with
the chemical should any incident occur. The first character, a
number, identifies the appropriate fire-fighting method. The second character, a
letter, identifies the necessary safety precautions for firefighters, whether
a violent reaction is possible, and whether to dilute or contain any spill. The third character will either be blank, or an E indicating that a public safety hazard exists. |

Letters: S, T, Y, and Z can, as well as being black letters on orange background, have orange letters on black background. This means that breathing apparatus is only required if there is a fire. Thanks KR for the update!
